IMPACT RFA to Support Research to Reduce Prostate Cancer Mortality

Application Deadline: October 15, 2024

Purpose

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer mortality among men in the United States. After decades of decline, the incidence of de novo metastatic prostate cancer diagnoses is increasing and alarmingly, Black men have more than twice as high a likelihood of death from prostate cancer than White men. The ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Cancer Society (ACS) is committed to reducing the burden of prostate cancer and improving prostate cancer outcomes for all men by addressing its root causes.

To address the public health burden of prostate cancer, ACS has launched the IMPACT?Initiative?¨C Improving Mortality from Prostate CAncer Together. To bolster our strategic research efforts, ACS will fund research projects focused on reducing prostate cancer mortality and improving outcomes for all. Priority will be given to applications with direct relevance to reducing health disparities in prostate cancer mortality.?

As part of our ongoing efforts, a consortium of IMPACT Investigators will meet annually to share research findings and facilitate collaborations.

Scientific Scope

Successful applications will propose studies with direct application to reducing prostate cancer mortality. Studies may span a variety of study designs and approach addressing mortality from any aspect. Possible research topics could include, but are not limited to:

  • Increasing uptake of screening
  • Healthy behaviors that reduce mortality in prostate cancer survivors
  • Improving treatment outcomes in prostate cancer patients
  • Developing novel targets for treatment
  • Addressing risk factors for aggressive prostate cancers
  • Increasing participation in clinical trials

Eligibility and Budget

Applications within the scope of this announcement will be accepted for all open ACS grant mechanisms (i.e., Postdoctoral Fellowships, Clinician Scientist Development Grants, Discovery Boost Grants, Research Scholar Grants). RSG applicants for this RFA initiative may be at any stage of career and any level of funding. All awarded applications will follow the same guidelines and terms as other ACS Grant applications unless specifically noted here.
?
Applicants will apply by selecting the appropriate grant mechanism in ProposalCentral and then selecting the IMPACT RFA on the title page. See the application instructions for more information. Please include "IMPACT" in the title (e.g., IMPACT: Tailoring screening recommendations in Black men with family history of prostate cancer).
