Portrait of Fernando Decillis, volunteer

Commercial photographer Fernando Decillis signed up through Catchafire to become a skill-based volunteer. He says, ¡°I was looking for a chance to meet up with exciting projects that needed imagery for good causes.¡± His first volunteer experience with the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Cancer Society was in 2017. He also recently completed a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer? photo shoot.

Fernando chose the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Cancer Society for volunteering because it¡¯s people-centered. He says, ¡°I love to tell stories about people through imagery. Cancer affects people from all walks of life. I wanted to help tell the stories of people who benefit from the work the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Cancer Society does.¡±

¡°The things you already love to do can be immensely impactful to people,¡± Fernando says. ¡°Sometimes it¡¯s hard to find a way to make a difference. I make pictures for a living. I¡¯m hardly saving lives, but giving people a space to be themselves and share their story is really enriching.¡±

Plus, he says, it makes you feel really good to give back, especially when you¡¯re giving back by doing something that you¡¯re good at and that you love doing. We couldn¡¯t agree more, Fernando!
